Hong Kong has a subtropical climate which has distinct seasons. The information on this page will help your preparing your trip there.

Spring is from March to May. Temperature and humidity are rising. But its evenings can be pretty cool.

Summer is from June to Augest, hot, humid and sunny, with occasional thunderstorms and showers. The temperture can move above 31°C.

Fall is from September to November. There are pleasant breezes, comfortable temperatures and plenty of sunshine. It is thought to be the best months of the year to visit Hong Kong by many people.

Winter is from December to Februry. The weather is cool, cloudy and dry. There are occasionally cold fronts. The temperature can drop below 10°C in urban areas.

Typhoon Season

Hong Kong is a place that you need to take typhoons into consideration.

Typhoon season is from May to November. When a typhoon is approaching, warnings are broadcast on TVs and radios. The signals will indicate:

  • typhoon's significance
  • its latest position
  • the expected movement of the centre of the tropical cyclone
  • information on the wind strength, rainfall and sea level in the territory

When typhoon signal 8 is issued, businesses and shops close down and flights may be cancelled. There is a separate warning for heavy rain.
