Hong Kong has been a special administrative region since it was returned to China by the United Kingdom in 1997. It often reffrered to as HKSAR ((Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) of the People's Republic of China) and has some special requirements if you want to gain a entry to it.

However, if you meet any of the following condidions, you don't have to have a visa or entry permit to enter Hong Kong:

-- You hold a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passport

-- You have a British National (Overseas) Passport

-- You have a Hong Kong Certificate of Identity

-- You enter from the Mainland of China and the Macao Special Administrative Region, and you have a Hong Kong Re-entry permit.

-- You have Hong Kong Seaman's Identity Book

-- You have a Hong Kong Document of Identity for Visa Purposes and the document is valid or your limit of stay in Hong Kong has not expired.

-- You hold travel documents that bear one of the following endorsements:

  • "Holder's eligibility for Hong Kong permanent identity card verified."
  • "The holder of this travel document has the right to land in Hong Kong. (Section 2AAA, Immigration Ordinance, Cap. 115, Laws of Hong Kong)"

-- You have the Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
